The Website the Owner Thought He Already Had

About the Client
New China Restaurant is a long-established Chinese restaurant serving the Wilmington community.
Back in 2010, I noticed something unusual on one of their takeout menus. The menu listed a website address, but when I checked, no website existed.
That discovery led to a conversation that grew into a business relationship that lasted more than a decade.
The Challenge
When I spoke with the original owner, he explained that he had paid someone approximately $2,500 to build a website for the restaurant.
For years, he believed he had a website and that he owned the domain name associated with his business.
Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.
The restaurant had been paying for something that never truly existed, and the owner had no control over a domain that represented his business online.
Even more concerning, the domain name was still available for public registration. If someone else had purchased it first, the restaurant could have permanently lost the opportunity to use its business name online.
My Solution
After discovering the issue, I immediately secured the domain name and registered it properly for the restaurant.
With ownership established, I designed and launched a professional website that gave customers a reliable online destination for restaurant information.
I built the website to showcase the restaurant, its menu, contact information, and overall dining experience, while making it easy for customers to find what they needed.

Protecting the Client's Online Identity
One of this project's most important goals was protecting the restaurant's online brand.
Many small business owners assume they own their website and domain name simply because they paid someone to create it. Unfortunately, that isn't always true.
By securing the domain and establishing proper ownership, I helped ensure the business controlled and protected New China Restaurant's online identity.
This gave the owner confidence that his business name, website, and online presence were secure for the future.
A Long-Term Partnership
What began as a single website project developed into a long-term business relationship.
More than a decade later and through three different ownership transitions, I continue to maintain the website and manage the restaurant's social media presence.
As customer expectations, technology, and online marketing trends have evolved over the years, the website has evolved with them. The design has been updated and refreshed multiple times to ensure the restaurant maintains a modern online presence while continuing to serve customers effectively.
Rather than remaining unchanged, the website has adapted alongside the business, helping maintain consistency through ownership changes while keeping information accessible and relevant for customers.
The website continues to serve as an important marketing tool, providing customers with easy access to menus, hours, contact information, and updates about the restaurant.
This long-term relationship reflects the trust established when the project first began and demonstrates the value of building digital assets that can continue serving a business for years.

The Outcome
Today, New China Restaurant has an established online presence supported by a professional website and active social media channels.
What started as the discovery of a missing website grew into a lasting digital foundation that has supported the business through multiple ownership changes while maintaining continuity for customers.
Most importantly, the business gained ownership, stability, and a reliable online presence that continues to serve the restaurant and its customers today.
